Chapel Hill Winery

Environment/Sustainability

Chapel Hill Winey has adopted the Global Reporting Initiative which takes an holistic view of business reporting and encompasses not only financial reporting but embraces environmental, and social measures.

As an active member of the local community, wine industry and the broader global community, we have a responsibility to pursue sustainable practices across all aspects of our business, and be aware of the impacts of our actions.

ENVIRONMENT

Our environmental policy is to ensure we make the most efficient use of our limited resources. We moniter all energy and water use, along with emissions and waste outputs. We are highly conscious of our responsibility towards our neighbours, and the onkaparinga National Park that we border. Current projects include:

  • using bio-dynamic principals in our vineyards
  • upgrading our refrigeration plant, minimising energy and water use
  • using recycled water from the Christies Beach treatment plant on our vineyards
  • improving bore water quality with a Hydrosmart System (http://www.hydrosmart.com.au/)
  • increasing our rain catchment areas
  • recycling winery waste water through our reed beds
  • recycling winery marc  through composting to the vineyards
  • reducing chemical usage
  • revegetation of the our Kangarilla vineyard creek line with native species to improve the wildlige corridor
