The Retreat, opened in November 2004, is the latest of the developments at Chapel Hill Winery.

The winery and Chapel Hill brand was started in 1976. The original winery was located in a tiny Methodist chapel built in 1865 and later used as the local school.

Since its modest start in the original chapel space Chapel Hill Winery has expanded significantly both in volume of wine it produces and its infrastructure developments. The business now has significant wine making and wine storage capacity as well as a Guest House and now The Retreat.

The Retreat was developed to give Chapel Hill the opportunity to offer very special hospitality to its customers and to delve more deeply into the development of food and wine combinations.

The Retreat has welcomed guests from many of Australia’s leading companies : BHP Billiton, SANTOS, BP, IBM, Vodafone, KFC, Eli Lilly, Roche Pharmaceuticals and Coca-Cola; and has seen many a group of friends kick up their heels in the enjoyment of the cooking school, good food and excellent wine.
